FAREWELL EVERYONE

Image
FAREWELL, EVERYONE! As everything comes to an end, we have completed this term, as well as the Material Design course, and I am writing a farewell. The material design course was a challenging yet rewarding experience.  Using a variety of technology tools, we created a variety of learning resources. I gained knowledge of students' talents, needs, skills, and language requirements while producing materials for them. It helped me in gaining a better grasp of how technology may be integrated into the material design in English language instruction. As a pre-service teacher, I learned to avoid using generic teaching materials and instead create resources that are tailored to the needs of the students. Now, I can create well-prepared and up-to-date teaching materials based on the preferences of the students. Feedback sessions are one of the aspects of this course that I appreciate and consider to be a strength. We got the opportunity to review our work before submitting it to discover w

TECHNOLOGY-ENHANCED PROJECTS

Image
HELLO EVERYONE! My post will be about creating a technology-enhanced project , the task, and how we made the project technology-enhanced. The Task Our task for this week was to develop a technology-enhanced project for students in the high school prep class. We redesigned and integrated technology into a non-technology-enhanced coursebook project. From the coursebook we are working on, we choose unit 20: Shopping. The project entails creating a poster about a famous bazaar in Turkey during the Ottoman era. Students will, however, create a digital poster as well as an information wall for our project! Students will visit a WebQuest that we designed, and they will complete their task following the steps in the process. Websites regarding bazaars in Turkey were recommended as a source of information. Canva will be used to create the poster, and  Padlet will be used to share information as to their information wall. We made sure to provide comprehensive guidance to students as they will

ENHANCING THE REALITY!

Image
HELLO EVERYONE! My post is about integrating augmented reality in education , the task, process of designing activity, the technological tools, and the challenges of using augmented reality. What is Augmented Reality? Augmented reality is a method of perceiving digital items and videos in a three-dimensional environment and interacting with them in the real world. It is a way of enhancing reality. The Task Our task for this week was to make Augmented Reality Integrated Teaching Material for high school prep class students.  From the two options presented, we selected to develop an activity about exploring a city abroad. For this task, we were asked to choose a city abroad and introduce 2 or 3 landmarks, a museum, local food with 3D objects or 360 videos, and homework for students regarding their experience in the city.  We chose the magnificent city of Rome to introduce in our handouts. We used visuals from various sources to offer attractions such as The Pantheon, The Colosseum, Fonta

A NEW APPROACH TO TEACHING! - Grammar

Image
HELLO EVERYONE! My post is about flipped grammar teaching , the advantages and the disadvantages of it, and the process of making video materials. The Task Our task for this week was to make flipped grammar teaching videos for kids in high school prep classes. For our flipped teaching material, similar to the vocabulary videos, we were asked to teach a grammar point offered in the coursebook. Animation, slides, or any other visuals; quizzes, or other forms of self-evaluation for pupils were also required. Eda, Hilal, and I collaborated on our flipped grammar teaching task during this period.  Flipped Grammar Teaching The most typical application of the flipped technique is in grammar instruction. The theory component of grammar learning is done outside of class time, whereas the practice is done in class. Students get more opportunities to put what they've learned in class into practice by speaking and interacting with one another. Students can select when, where, and how they lea

A NEW APPROACH TO TEACHING! - Vocabulary

Image
HELLO EVERYONE! My post is about flipped vocabulary teaching , the advantages and the disadvantages of it, and the process of making video materials. The Task The next assignment was to create flipped vocabulary teaching videos. My friend and Eda were paired to work on the task. Visuals and voice recordings were requested to present the vocabulary. Quizzes or checkpoints were also requested to be prepared to accompany the content so that students could practice before participating in in-class activities. What are Flipped Vocabulary Teaching Videos? A non-traditional approach to vocabulary teaching is flipped vocabulary teaching. Instruction, which is the theory aspect of learning, takes place at home, while practice, which is the most critical part of learning, takes place in class. Students learn the vocabulary with the lecture videos prepared by the teacher, and when they come to school, this information becomes permanent with practice. Animations, narrations, and graphics are all u

LANGUAGE AWARENESS TASK

Image
HELLO EVERYONE! My post is about an approach to language teaching; Language Awareness. What Is Language Awareness? Language awareness is making students learn the language themselves by exploring the linguistic structure. They get conscious about their language acquisition. Thus, it enables students to use the language fluently in an authentic context. Students can work on linguistic data while trying to make sense of the language which is called data-driven learning.   What Is Data-Driven Learning? Data-driven learning is examining the language, not from traditional books but linguistic data, students as researchers. In our case, our students work with Corpus. Corpus is a collection of written texts from magazines, books, newspapers in a particular language. My friend Eda and I have prepared a language awareness task for our students while working on the 11th unit of the coursebook. As for Corpus, students will use Skell as it is appropriate for their age and proficiency levers. He

LONG TIME NO POST!

Image
HELLO EVERYONE! Hello to all readers and to the people who visit my blog for the first time!  I am Sümeyye, an English pre-service teacher. It's been a long time since I last posted anything. Welcome back to my blog! The purpose of creating this blog was the Educational Technologies course I took the last term. I shared the tasks I made on my blog about what a teacher needs for being an up-dated and skilled teacher in the 21st century . Such as; infographics podcasts, and so on. In the second semester, I decided to take the Material Design course. Looking at this subject from the teacher's view would help me be a skilled teacher. For this reason, I will dedicate this blog to the Material Design tasks. As I mentioned above, in my new posts, you will find tasks that will help students' language learning by using various technological tools in line with the lacks, necessities, and wants of the students. See you in my next post!
