LANGUAGE AWARENESS TASK

Image
HELLO EVERYONE! My post is about an approach to language teaching; Language Awareness. What Is Language Awareness? Language awareness is making students learn the language themselves by exploring the linguistic structure. They get conscious about their language acquisition. Thus, it enables students to use the language fluently in an authentic context. Students can work on linguistic data while trying to make sense of the language which is called data-driven learning.   What Is Data-Driven Learning? Data-driven learning is examining the language, not from traditional books but linguistic data, students as researchers. In our case, our students work with Corpus. Corpus is a collection of written texts from magazines, books, newspapers in a particular language. My friend Eda and I have prepared a language awareness task for our students while working on the 11th unit of the coursebook. As for Corpus, students will use Skell as it is appropriate for their age and proficiency levers...

LONG TIME NO POST!

Image
HELLO EVERYONE! Hello to all readers and to the people who visit my blog for the first time!  I am Sümeyye, an English pre-service teacher. It's been a long time since I last posted anything. Welcome back to my blog! The purpose of creating this blog was the Educational Technologies course I took the last term. I shared the tasks I made on my blog about what a teacher needs for being an up-dated and skilled teacher in the 21st century . Such as; infographics podcasts, and so on. In the second semester, I decided to take the Material Design course. Looking at this subject from the teacher's view would help me be a skilled teacher. For this reason, I will dedicate this blog to the Material Design tasks. As I mentioned above, in my new posts, you will find tasks that will help students' language learning by using various technological tools in line with the lacks, necessities, and wants of the students. See you in my next post!

FAREWELL EVERYBODY

Image
HELLO EVERYONE! Welcome to my farewell post !  We have reached the end of my blogging journey. I created this blog to be a page where I can share my thoughts and task products on language education in the 21st century.  Technology is at the center of the 21st century. Before I took this course, I considered technology integration as an option and limited if we consider today's education view in Turkey.   But through this course, I learned there is a need for technology in every school, and this need will increase even more when we, pre-service teachers, become in-service teachers. Technology should be used for the sake of education for digital natives. We can reshape our opportunities by using our creativity even in the worst conditions! That is why it is important to be a teacher who read a lot, research a lot, and reflect a lot to be a compatible teacher! While completing the tasks I learned something new every time and had fun while doing it, but I think my favorite ...

HELLO EVERYONE! My post is about digital storytelling , the process, and its use in language classes. What Is Digital Storytelling? Digital storytelling is a short form of digital media production that allows everyday people to share aspects of their stories (Wikipedia, 2020). The Task For our assignment, we were asked to create a digital story in pairs. My friend Betül and I chose "How to project" After brainstorming, we decided on the Konmari method!  We drafted our script and  created a storyboard with visuals  Here is an example! To get the perfect result, I recorded my narration several times using my phone's voice recorder.  Afterward, we used Canva to design our video. Canva is a convenient tool because,  If you struggle to design, you can use various templates to inspire!  It has free visuals and soundtracks.  But The free videos are limited so finding a perfect match for narration can be hard. Also, video resolution can decrease while downloa...

Firstly, I searched for information that I will use and got the data from here , check for more information! Canva is a convenient tool to use as it has various templates and it is free. All I did was adding information with lots of visuals and colors to be attention-grabbing. Here is my infographic! How Can it Be Used in a Language Classroom? HELLO EVERYONE! My post is about posters , the design process, and their use as an educational tool. What Is a Poster? A poster is a  large   printed   picture  or  notice  put up  for advertising or  decoration.    (Cambridge Dictionary, 2020). The Task Our assignment for this week was to design a poster. The options were  creating a movie poster based on a book, and  designing a magazine cover.  I used the tool  Postermywall for my magazine cover which  has various templates for posters, banners, etc. First of all, I decided on my topic as minimalism and  included four different points on the cover using an appropriate font. D etails such as the date of the issue, logo, and barcode were included in the cover, just like a real one.  Here is my poster! Avenoir's audience is adults who are interested in minimalism in areas such as fashion, architecture, and lifestyle. How Can it Be Used in  a Langu...

DIGITAL CANVAS - PADLET

Image
HELLO EVERYONE! My post will be about Padlet , how to create one, and its benefit in the education field. What is Padlet? Padlet is an application to create an online bulletin board that you can use to display information for any topic ( TeachersFirst Review - Padlet ) .  It is a personal board on a digital platform that consists of ideas, links, pictures, videos, or even drawings. Padlet lets collaborative work as there is an option that allows many users to contribute anonymously or with a name. Padlet is a reliable technological tool because of the owner of the board permits who will post on the board. Our task was creating a KWL chart on Padlet. As it was a group project, we formed a group of five. The first step was choosing the topic from the given subjects. We decided on bullying that concerns schools to prevent it as pre-service teachers. After signing up, my friend created a wall that we will post the KWL chart. KWL chart consists of three columns named what we know, want ...
